MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Is Brutal Even Without Effects

Watch any behind-the-scenes featurette of the making of your average CGI-laden Hollywood blockbuster and it’s often unintentionally goofy. That’s because aside from the actors, most of what’s supposed to be happening on screen is fake (not that there’s anything wrong with that but we’re just noting how commonplace it is).

But in this video from Sploid comparing behind-the-scenes footage with actual scenes in the movie, you can see just how much of Mad Max: Fury Road was real—or rather real while taking safety precautions and not endangering actors as much as possible. A lot of the scenes don’t even look all that different from each other other than the more cinematic look of the finished product, and that’s because most of the film’s effects were practical effects (i.e. “real”). All this just goes further to show how bold and daring Miller and his team’s creative vision was, and how much they wanted to “keep it real,” so to speak.
